Impressive performance
We were please to see a demonstration of the new 2006 Alex GT. With promise of exceptional performance and handling, we had high hopes for a real show and we were not disappointed. With superb acceleration of 0 – 60cm in 2.3 seconds and a straight line speed of about the length of the bedroom (electronically limited by manufacturer), the GT is in a league of it’s own.
The Alex GT has 4 limb drive and sports a supercharged engine with 3 speed (fast, stop and backwards) automatic 8 tooth transmission.
The 2-tone exterior is smart and functional and the rag-bottom (fully retractable in 16 seconds) gives you that dynamic ‘wind in your face’ experience - just what’s required to wake you up on these bright spring mornings.
Fashionable Exterior
We were unsure about the go-faster spots, however the manufacturers tell us that this was part of a one-off ‘Chicken-pox’ exterior pack, which has since proven unpopular and has subsequently been withdrawn. A spokesman told us “At first, we couldn’t believe how popular this was – everyone had to have it – it spread like a virus. But soon people realised that pack lead to bodywork overheating and distressing engine tones. The novelty of the spots themselves wore off very fast and most owners have now come back for a respray”
Although straight-line speed is something to behold, manoeuvrability and cornering leave a lot to be desired. The lack of anti-roll bars and significant understeer experienced under braking led to some poor performance in our crash tests. EuroNCAP rating – 2 stars
Unprecedented acceleration
The deep exhaust tones would lead you to think this is a real supercar, and looking at the fuel consumption, you would be right. Unfortunately emissions are in excess of EEC Euro IV guidelines and at following this years budget which puts the Alex GT at the top end of the VED tax banding, owners can expect a significant rise in operational costs over the coming twelve months.
